Bomb Washes Up On Monterey Bay Beach
The corroded bomb was a U.S. Navy WWII era practice bomb that did not contain explosives.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A corroded WWII era practice bomb that was manufactured for the U.S. Navy washed ashore at Pajaro Dunes, a Santa Cruz County beach situated on Monterey Bay.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office reports that it washed ashore on Dec. 31. The sheriff's office bomb squad responded, closely followed by Travis Air Force Base personnel who removed it.
Travis Air Force Base told Fox News Digital in an email about the recovery."After safely performing an on-site visual inspection and x-ray scan, the item was deemed free of explosives and safe to transport to Travis AFB," a spokesperson said. "The item was determined to be a U.S. WWII era Navy practice bomb, model Mk 15, Mod 2. It is currently being retained with Travis [Explosive Ordnance Disposal] and will remain in place to prevent future concerns."

The bomb was discovered after dangerous surf slammed the coastline, pounding wharves, flooding businesses and causing some injuries.
