SANTA CRUZ, CA – Firefighters from the Cal Fire San Mateo/Santa Cruz Unit were at the scene of a vegetation fire that spread over 20 acres but did not threaten immediately any structures Monday afternoon, officials said.

A Cal Fire spokeswoman told Patch Monday that the forward progress of the fire has been stopped after the fire started near 640 Coast Rd. just before 2 p.m. on Monday, Cal Fire Captain Angela Bernheisel said. According to the local Cal Fire Twitter account, firefighters arrived at the scene near Wilder Ranch State Park off of Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County and that forward progress of the fire had been stopped after 20 acres.

Bernheisel said that firefighters from Cal Fire and Santa Cruz City and County had the fire mostly contained within almost an hour after two tankers and a helicopter attacked the fire before it could spread any farther, Bernheisel said Monday afternoon. Crews were just mopping up the area after firefighters managed to stop the wildfire's forward progress.
