Celebrate Santa Cruz Wastewater Treatment Facility’s Mural

From Santa Cruz Public Works: The City of Santa Cruz invites the community to celebrate the Wastewater Treatment Facility’s new mural with dedication led by Mayor David Terrazas on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 12:15-12:45 p.m. at 110 California St. The ocean and estuary-themed mural by local artist Elijah Pfotenhauerunderscores the plant’s environmentally-friendly process and is a City of Santa Cruz Arts Commission project.

The mural includes panels covering about 400 feet of the plant’s driveway walls, extending to heights of 24 feet. Guests will be greeted by giant blue whales, red octopus, coho and egrets. All attendees will be entered into a prize raffle. Light refreshments will be served.

Limited public parking for the event is available on California Street. Biking or walking is encouraged with bike racks available at the facility’s entrance.

Artist Elijah Pfotenhauer utilizes painting and visual arts to engage and uplift the community. A variety of his murals have been installed throughout Santa Cruz County and the Bay Area.

This project was funded through wastewater funds from the City’s 1 Percent for Art Program.

The seven-member Arts Commission was established in 1977 to advise the City Council on policies which enhance the aesthetic and cultural quality of life in the City of Santa Cruz.
