'Cement Ship' Skateboarding: New At Santa Cruz County Skate Park

The Seacliff Village Neighborhood Park will get a new skateable art feature for skateboarders.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A skateable art feature will soon be added to the Seacliff Village Neighborhood Park, the county announced. The addition will feature nods to Aptos history, including the S. S. Palo Alto — locally known as the "cement ship" — grounded in the Seacliff State Beach.

The new feature is made possible thanks to donations from lifelong Capitola resident and founder of skateboard company NHS Inc. Richard Novak, and longtime Apros resident and philanthropist Rowland Rebele, according to a press release from the county. Friends of Santa Cruz County Parks and Santa Cruz County Parks also played a role in the park's expansion.

"Since opening four years ago, Seacliff Village Park has become a destination for children and families from across Santa Cruz County," said Santa Cruz County Supervisor Zach Friend. "I'm pleased to be able to work (with) the community to bring this project here."
