SANTA CRUZ, CA – Chief of Police Andrew Mills has announced his resignation effective Oct. 29, 2021. Mills is leaving the City of Santa Cruz to accept the position of Chief of Police for the City of Palm Springs. He was appointed Chief of the Santa Cruz Police Department in July 2017.

“During his tenure, Chief Mills has made progress in moving our police department toward a culture of community policing, problem-solving and transparency. In addition, he strengthened the department’s capabilities around mental health crisis response. We wish him the best in his new role and thank him for his dedicated service,” said Mayor Donna Meyers.
Interim City Manager Rosemary Menard will appoint an Interim Chief of Police prior to Mills’s departure. Information concerning the recruitment process for a permanent appointee will be shared when it becomes available.
