Coyotes On Campus Acting Aggressively At UC Santa Cruz
A campus resident's dog was attacked in one case, police said. The coyote followed them home.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — University of California, Santa Cruz campus police are warning the public about aggressive behavior from campus coyotes as of late. Coyotes have also been coming close to people.
A coyote attacked a resident's small dog and followed them home, the UC Santa Cruz Police Department said. The owner was able to fend off the coyote.
There have been reports of troubling coyote activity by people at Family Student Housing, Rachel Carson College and Oakes College, police said.

The public is urged to keep their distance from the animals and never try to feed or tame them. Small children or pets should never be left on their own outside, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Make loud noises if followed by a coyote or throw rocks at them, if that fails.
Coyotes tend to be more active in the spring, when they are feeding their young.
