Deputies Injured While Arresting Man In Stolen Car

A report of a 'suspicious man' in a car prompted the arrest.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A man who was allegedly in a stolen car was arrested after trying to flee from deputies in Santa Cruz County Wednesday morning. The deputies tried to contact the driver while investigating a report of a ‘suspicious man’ in a car parked on Maywood Drive in Boulder Creek.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said that in his attempt to escape, the suspect rammed two vehicles, including a patrol car, before driving toward two deputies.

The suspect ditched the car after hitting a fence and tree, authorities said. He was captured in the woods following a short foot chase. The man, whose name has not been released, was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest.

The deputies were treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital and are expected to recover. The car, which had been stolen from a dealership in San Jose, was recovered.
