DNA's Stand-Up Mash-Up

I love putting on comedy shows in Santa Cruz—it’s in my genes, literally. My Grandfather and his brothers ran the Hotel Anderson in Monticello, New York back in the 1950s. In the heart of the Borscht Belt, it was ground zero for the beginning wave of stand-up comedy that has progressed and mutated into the 21st Century. Hotel Anderson is famously known as the resort where Sid Caesar, the creator of Your Show of Shows, got his early start in comedy.

DNA's Stand-Up Mash-Up is my latest creation. I have 5 shows coming up in July for this years Fringe Festival.

This Friday at 8pm I am putting on a show at The Kuumbwa Jazz Center with a Santa Cruz native, Drennon Davis. Davis is unique in the stand-up comedy world as he has perfected a show called The Imaginary Radio Program where he manifests an entire world of AM/FM radio, complete with DJs, music and commercials all with his voice. He will be joined by DJ Real (who has opened for Devo) accompanying Davis on a musical journey through the airwaves.

Also on the bill are Brendan Lynch, a combination of Howard Stern and Bill Hicks who was recently voted one of the top comics to watch in the Bay Area by the SF Weekly. Surprise appearances by local comic Chad Opitz and the Blue Lagoonies House Band make this the perfect show for Graduation Weekend.

Part of the proceeds will benefit the Santa Cruz Homeless Services Center.
