DUI Crackdown: More Patrols This Month In Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz Police Department will have extra officers on the streets, looking for signs of impaired driving.

SANTA CRUZ, CA β€” The Santa Cruz Police Department is ramping up its efforts to find intoxicated drivers from Dec. 13 until the New Year with extra patrolling officers.

"Unfortunately, this time of year is when we see more people driving impaired," said Sgt. Wes Morey. "There is no excuse for driving after drinking or using drugs that impair. There are many ways to get home safely without driving."

The department reminds drivers that DUI can involve alcohol or drugs, and encourages anyone attending holiday parties with alcohol to use a designated driver. It asks people hosting holiday parties to offer non-alcoholic drinks for designated drivers, and offer guests a place to crash or have them take a ride-share if they've been drinking and try to leave.
