Discover the Santa Cruz Sandhills- A Biodiversity Hotspot in Your Own Backyard

The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History's new Connect with Nature series runs every Saturday from January 29, 2011 to February 19, 2011. Each class is $8 for members and $10 for general admission. Please register online or at the class.

On January 29th you'll Discover the Santa Cruz Sandhills- a Biodiversity Hotspot in your own Backyard! Amidst the coast redwood forests that dominate Santa Cruz County, islands of ancient marine sand deposits give rise to unique communities of plants and animals found nowhere else in the world. Take a hike and learn about the diversity and fascinating ecology of the Sandhills communities.

Jodi McGraw is an ecologist who works on conservation projects throughout central coastal California.  Her dissertation research at UC Berkeley examined the ecology of the endangered plants and rare communities of the Santa Cruz Sandhills. This class will take place rain or shine. Meet at the Morgan Preserve (end of Geyer Rd., Scotts Valley 95066) at 10am. Questions? Call 831-420-1135.
