On the evening of January 31, 2011 the UC Santa Cruz Office of the Chancellor is proud to present the MLK Jr. Convocation with Dr. Terrence Roberts. This special event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium.
Terrence Roberts is a civil rights activist, diversity consultant, and frequent keynote speaker. He is the author of Simple, Not Easy: Reflections on Community, Social Responsibility, and Tolerance. In 1957, Roberts volunteered to be one of the "Little Rock Nine", a group of students who desegregated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Though President Dwight D. Eisenhower ordered Federal troops to the school to protect the African American students, Roberts suffered physical and verbal abuse.
This lecture serves to open and continue the conversation about race, one of the most salient and confusing topics of our culture. Doors will open at 6:30pm.
