Hike among wildflowers from the sea to the trees in Rancho del Oso’s Waddell Valley! Scot Peden leads hikes from both the inland and seaside portions of Big Basin, and has photographed many of the 160 species of wildflowers found in the park. Scot will lead hikes this spring and summer on the second Sunday of the month. The hikes will be less than three miles in length, and can accommodate photographers who want to go slowly and take photos. Scott has a wealth of knowledge about the area. For more information or to sign up, call the nature and history center at 831-427-2288, or just show up with lunch and energy to hike! On Sunday, April 10, the walk will begin from the Ranger Station located inside the gates along the Skyline to the Sea Trail from the Waddell Creek entrance to the park. On Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, the walk will begin at the Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center as part of the Wildflower Festival. The entrance to Rancho del Oso is located along Highway 1 just south of Año Nuevo State Reserve.
