Ex-Boyfriend Suspected Of Raping, Trying To Kill Woman: SCPD

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Police in Santa Cruz have arrested a Hayward man on charges of rape and attempted murder of his former girlfriend, it was announced Monday.

Jeremy Castleberry, 28, was taken into custody after an investigation began around 6 p.m. Friday at Santa Cruz's Dominican Hospital. The case was opened after a woman was admitted to the medical facility and staff reached out to police.

During the police investigation, SCPD officers determined that Castleberry had sexually assaulted the woman and tried to kill her. He was eventually taken into custody at his home in Hayward with the assistance of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

"Due to the violent nature of the physical assault, Castleberry was booked for rape and attempted homicide," according to the SCPD.
