Family Vacation Rescued By SCPD Office Assistant, Good Samaritan
The story began when an anonymous citizen brought a fanny pack to SCPD headquarters that was loaded with cash, passports and plane tickets.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A good Samaritan and a hard-working Santa Cruz Police Department office assistant deserve big hugs for rescuing a family of four who were visiting the area from out of the country.
The story began last week when an anonymous citizen brought a fanny pack to SCPD headquarters. The pack, found on a Pescadero bench, contained four passports, $1,990 in U. S. currency, $250 in Canadian cash, Asian passports, plane tickets, a car key and some sim cards, according to the SCPD.
The "super sleuth" office assistant was able to connect with Mostsim, an international sim card company, and got the owner's contact info, the SCPD said. The office assistant backtracked and found an email address for "Bobo" from Malaysia. A message was sent and Bobo (first name) immediately called SCPD crying with tears of happiness because the family — visiting from Malaysia and Canada — was on their way to an embassy in Los Angeles to cancel their vacation. The family turned their car around in Monterey and came back to Santa Cruz to pick up the fanny pack.

"The family was so sweet and appreciative. Stunned, they were physically shaking when we returned their property," the SCPD reported.
To make the story even sweeter, the do-gooders didn't ask anything in return.
