Woman Dies In Santa Cruz Car Crash

A young man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — The Santa Cruz Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian and injured another.

Mark Zembrano of Santa Cruz was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, two counts of driving under the influence and causing injury and other counts.

Officers were called to the area of Murray Street and Mott Avenue around 2:10 p.m. and discovered a 44-year-old woman and 15-year-old girl were hit. Both were hospitalized at Dominican Hospital, where the woman died. The teenager is in stable condition, but has serious injuries.

Police have not released the name of the woman until her family is notified.

Investigators closed Murray Street from Seabright Avenue to E. Cliff Drive as they reviewed the scene, impacting traffic for six hours.
