Free Events at Santa Cruz Public Libraries This Week
Week of June 12th June 18th: Events and Activities for Kids, Teens, and Adults are part of the Reading By Design Summer Reading Program

The Santa Cruz Public Libraries’ (SCPL) Summer Reading Program; READING BY DESIGN is in full swing. In addition to providing reading incentives for youth ages 0-17 and LIBRARY BINGO for adults, SCPL has a full schedule of free activities and programs for the entire family.
Wednesday, June 14
Tom Noddy’s Bubble Magic is an inspiring mix of science and art that will engage the entire family. Tom Noddy’s performances are nationally renowned and he has appeared on television.

Kusudama Flowers Take your origami to the next level and try making these flowers. For ages 8+.

Water-Smart Gardening presented by Neal Christen of the Santa Cruz Water Department will help you create a water wise garden that could gain you recognition from the Monterey Bay Water Smart Landscape Recognition Program.

Thursday, June 15
Magical Moonshine Puppet Theater bring their internationally acclaimed, award winning puppet, mask, and musical performances the whole family will love. This year, they present Chanticleer the Rooster, from the “Chaucer” collection, and Puppylocks and the Three Bears.

Tannery World Dance: Capoeira with Papiba Godinho The Tannery World Dance + Cultural Center is bringing music and dance form around the world to SCPL throughout the summer. Papiba Godinho of SambaDá and founder of Raizes do Brasil Capoeira School.

Do It Yourself Video (DIY) is a workshop led by KC Carlson of Memory Keepers Video designed to help people make great videos with their smartphones. Learn about lighting, audio, and more to make videos that tell your story.

The San Lorenzo Valley Band is an annual summer tradition at the beautiful Outdoor Amphitheater at the Boulder Creek Library. The 30 piece orchestra led by Conductor Jon Christian is a big hit with all ages.

This year’s Summer Reading Program theme, READING BY DESIGN, celebrates our ability to create wonders from our imaginations. From arts and crafts, to science and technology, we invite the entire county to spend the summer discovering a wide range of fun and educational experiences.
