'Griswoldia' To Light Up Tannery Arts Center

The unveiling of the laser light exhibit also coincides with the popular four-day Winter Art Market -- so jot down the dates!

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – Arts Council Santa Cruz County and the Tannery Arts Center invites the public to attend the lighting ceremony of Griswoldia, a laser light art installation by Tannery artist Geoffrey Nelson that will illuminate the historic buildings and promenade on the campus.

The ceremony will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, and will kick off the Tannery’s Winter Art Market, a four-day shopping celebration of locally made arts, crafts, and goods.

“Griswoldia will transform the Tannery with cutting-edge laser technology that will brighten and highlight this wonderful campus,” says Geoffrey Nelson. "It is great to be able to debut this new body of work at the Tannery that celebrates both the season and this new art form."

Nelson was selected from a pool of artists who submitted proposals for the Arts Council’s call for projects with the theme of “The Gift of Light.”

Griswoldia will light up the Tannery every evening in December from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., a project funded through a grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and sponsored, in part, by Riverside Lighting.
