Gun Found After Officer Notices Car With Expired Tags, Police Say
When an officer approached the man in a car with expired tags, the man blurted out, "I'm not on probation," police said.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — A man was found with an unregistered, loaded 9mm Glock pistol after police noticed his car had expired registration tags, the Santa Cruz Police Department.
Police noticed the car parked at the end of Vernon Street, spokesperson Joyce Blaschke wrote Sunday. An officer approached and Salvador Fragoso-Landeros quickly got out of the car and pretended to walk his dog, police said.
The officer mentioned the expired tags to Fragoso-Landeros and asked to see his ID.

"I'm not on probation," Fragoso-Landeros told the officer, police said.
Another officer pulled up. The first officer on scene patted Fragoso-Landeros down, searching for weapons and found the gun in his waistband, police said.

Police noted the arrest came days after the arrest of Sergio Alvarez-Lopez, 23, who police said was a Westside Chico gang member with a semi-automatic loaded handgun.
