Gun, Mask Found At Santa Cruz County High School

A bomb squad was called in after the discovery Sunday.

APTOS, CA — A bag containing a firearm was found Sunday at a high school in Aptos, according to the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.

In addition to the gun, a mask was also found in close proximity to the bag at Aptos High School, the school district said.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement are investigating. An ongoing, comprehensive search of the campus was underway, including a K-9 bomb detection unit and bomb squad.

For the coming week, there will be increased staffing and law enforcement presence at high schools throughout the county. The Sheriff's Office will update the community as more information comes in.
