Have Property Stolen? Check With Watsonville PD
The department is hosting on Jan. 23 a recovery day to match theft victims with loot. You'll need proof of ownership.

The Watsonville Police Department, following the discovery of a large amount of stolen property last month, will hold a property recovery day on Jan. 23 for theft victims to identify missing items, police said.

On Dec. 26, police arrested 22-year-old Ernie Ortiz on suspicion of possession of stolen property when officers discovered a cache of more than 140 items believed stolen, according to Detective Sgt. Eric Montalbo.
Detectives began looking through many police reports of stolen property to locate the owners and some of it has been returned, but lots of things remain unidentified, Montalbo said.

The unclaimed property includes bicycles, cellphones, computers, car stereos, power tools and a variety of other items, he said.
The property will be placed on display for the public from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at the city corporation yard at 320 Harvest Drive in Watsonville.

Citizens intending to view the property should bring with them any proof of ownership for the stolen items to assist in the identification process, including serial numbers, model numbers, receipts and photographs, Montalbo said.
Police also request that those planning to be at the recovery day provide the original case number for any theft reports they filed, he said.
