‘Heroic’ Teen’s Incredible Rescue Of Suicidal Stranger Praised By Santa Cruz Co. Sheriff's Office
The teen was holding onto the distraught person to keep them from falling from the train trestle when deputies found them.
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A distraught person was rescued from jumping off a Santa Cruz County train trestle earlier this week thanks to the quick thinking of a courageous teenager, sheriff’s office officials said. According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, the person had hopped over the metal railing of the train trestle near 30th Avenue and was threatening to jump. When deputies got closer, they discovered a teenager holding onto the person, who had completely let go of the railing. The drop below the trestle was estimated to be about 35 feet.
Officials said Deputy Pacheco and Field Training Deputy Miyoshi helped the teen pull the person back over the train trestle railing to safety. The teen, whose name was not released, did not know the distraught person. Officials lauded the teen’s heroic actions by social media.
The person was taken to the County Behavioral Health Center for a mental health evaluation.
