K-9 Jax Joins Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office

Jax specializes in narcotics detection and will be working at county corrections facilities.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A new guy is on the job in Santa Cruz County, and his name is Jax. He's a 15-month-old yellow Labrador who's been brought on as a Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office K-9. By week's end, he'll be serving with his handler — Corrections Officer Marra Uva.

Jax specializes in narcotics detection and will be working at county corrections facilities. His job will be finding contraband inside and outside at all locations, according to the sheriff's office.

Marc Rispoli, who trained Jax, said the K-9 and Uva are a strong team. "They've already done really well and are going to have a very long and successful career finding contraband in the jail."
