Lane-Striping of San Lorenzo Riverwalk Path Should Be Completed Wednesday
And have you noticed? ... Santa Cruz Ranger patrols on the Riverwalk have increased.

SANTA CRUZ, CA – News from the City of Santa Cruz:
The City of Santa Cruz is in the process of lane-striping the San Lorenzo Riverwalk path so painted lanes will enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety, reinforcing the rules of the road. The Project completion is expected on Wednesday, April 5.
“The Riverwalk is an important active transportation corridor for the community. We hope that the striping along with increased Santa Cruz Ranger patrols and other new improvements will allow the community to use and enjoy the scenic San Lorenzo River path more than ever,” said Mayor Cynthia Chase.

In other news:
- Santa Cruz Ranger patrols on the Riverwalk have increased since last August. The officers patrol on foot and by bicycle and all-terrain vehicle every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Three interpretive signs are scheduled to be installed on the Riverwalk this month describing the history of the San Lorenzo River as well as its native birds and fish. The sign installation and upcoming re-vegetation will conclude the San Lorenzo River Phase II Project that was celebrated with a levee lighting ceremony in January 2016.
Other completed San Lorenzo River Phase II Project components include 40 energy efficient levee pathway lights, a fitness station and seating areas along the west levee between Laurel Street Extension and the Water Street Bridge. All improvements were completed in accordance with recommendations in the City’s adopted 2003 San Lorenzo Urban River Plan and meet the goals of improving the scenic and recreational value of the San Lorenzo River.

Another major Riverwalk enhancement is underway. On March 27 the City began construction of the Branciforte Creek Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge which will complete the gap in the 5-mile Riverwalk system. The project will provide a cyclist/pedestrian crossing over Branciforte Creek, as well as a multi-use path under the Soquel Avenue Bridge to meet the existing Riverwalk path. Project completion is slated for this November.
