Latest Santa Cruz Coronavirus Case Count; 8th Death Reported

The man in his early 40s died in his home. Also: The coronavirus continues to disproportionately affect South County and Latinx residents.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — An eighth Santa Cruz County resident has died as a result of the coronavirus.

The man, who was Hispanic and in his 40s, died in his South County home, the county announced Wednesday in a news release. COVID-19 was his primary cause of death, though he had underlying health conditions.

Public health officials are investigating to determine how he contracted the virus.

The coronavirus continues to disproportionately affect Latinx and South County residents, the county said.

There were 2,096 cases of the coronavirus reported in Santa Cruz County as of Wednesday morning, county statistics show. That includes 1,316 cases in Hispanic or Latino residents, and 1,304 South County cases.
