Local Businesses Deliver Bonus Checks to Big Brothers Big Sisters

The Glass Jar and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk team up for Big Brothers Big Sisters

After leading bowling teams that raised over $2,500 each for Big Brothers Big Sisters during Bowl for Kids’ Sake, local restaurateur Zach Davis of the Glass Jar and Boardwalk president Karl Rice recently added bonus checks to also benefit the organization.

As a result of a bowling challenge between Davis and Rice, Davis donated an additional $500 because his Glass Jar bowling team didn’t quite measure up to Rice’s Ringers when it came to knocking down pins. And Rice donated an additional $500 because the Glass Jar team managed to raise a little more money.

Despite the friendly rivalry, everyone agrees that the real winners are the kids in Santa Cruz County who will be matched with a caring mentor by Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake, the largest fundraiser of the year for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County, raised over $113,000 this year. The Boardwalk donates use of the Boardwalk Bowl to Big Brothers Big Sisters for the annual event.
