Lumber Yard Donates Wood To Repair Fences Following Standoff

Several deputies used the donated wood and supplies to make the repairs.

APTOS, CA — The day after an Aptos shooting suspect was taken into custody following an overnight standoff, deputies set to work to repair the fences damaged during the police activity. Ralph Millar, 57, was arrested Thursday morning following the standoff with law enforcement.

On Wednesday night, Millar allegedly broke into a neighbor's home in the 100 block of Santa Cruz Avenue in the unincorporated Aptos community. Sheriff's Sgt. Cesar Ramirez said Millar is suspected of shooting at two women in the house, striking one of them. That woman was flown to a trauma center and was listed in stable condition Thursday. The other woman was also injured, though she wasn't shot, Ramirez said.

In the process of handling the standoff, police damaged several wood fences in order to gain access to nearby backyards. San Lorenzo Lumber donated the wood and materials needed to fix the fences. Deputies made the repairs Friday, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
