Major Injury Crash Under Investigation In Santa Cruz
Police said the driver was an unlicensed high school student who had four people in a two-seater car.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Police in Santa Cruz are investigating a major injury collision that sent four female students from Harbor High School to the hospital this morning. The crash was reported just before 11 a.m. in the 300 block of La Fonda Avenue.
The 17-year-old driver, who was found to be unlicensed, was driving three other teenagers in a maroon Nissan 350Z Roadster, according to investigators. Police said the driver lost control of her car, which was designed for two people.
“The car veered to the left side of the street, struck a parked minivan, then sideswiped a parked truck and then traveled to the opposite side of the road and crashed into another parked van,” police said in a statement.

One of the occupants was life-flighted to a Bay Area trauma center. She is in stable condition, according to police. The other girls were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries and are expected to recover.
Police were forced to close La Fonda and Soquel avenues for several hours following the wreck. The road has since reopened. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
