Man Arrested On Beach With Fake Gun, Vodka Bottle, Police Say

Beachgoers called in a man drinking from a vodka bottle with an apparent gun protruding from his backpack.

SANTA CRUZ, CA β€” An Arizona man was arrested Wednesday morning near Santa Cruz's wharf after several beachgoers reported spotting a man with what appeared to be a gun protruding from his backpack, police said.

Callers also told the Santa Cruz Police Department that the man was acting strangely. Police said they arrived to find Kylan Moreland, 30, drinking from a vodka bottle.

Officers used loudspeakers to instruct Moreland to put his backpack down. He complied, continuing to sip from the bottle, police said.

The gun turned out to be fake.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing an altered replica gun and public intoxication, police said.
