Man Arrested In Stranger's Driveway With Meth, Knife, Police Say

A homeowner called police early Wednesday morning to report a suspicious person in their driveway.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A man, 25, was arrested early Wednesday morning after a Hagemann Avenue resident called Santa Cruz police to report a suspicious person in a car in their driveway, police said. Christopher Beresh, a local transient, was found with a concealed fixed blade knife, methamphetamine, a scale and apparent stolen property, police said.

Officers surprised him in his car, instructed him to exit the car with his hands up and detained him. He was on probation for several counts related to property crimes, police said.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a concealed dirk or dagger, possessing a controlled substance, sales, vehicle tampering, petty theft and violating a state of emergency amid the shelter-in-place order, police said.
