SANTA CRUZ, CA — A local man was reunited with his bike three years after it was stolen in Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said.

A deputy saw a man who had warrants and tried to stop him, the sheriff's office said. He got away, but ditched his bike. The deputy knew the man had previously been arrested for stealing things and tried to track down the bike's owner.

He checked the serial number and saw the bike wasn't reported stolen, then called around to bike shops trying to find its owner. The deputy eventually tracked down Runquan Guan, who reported the bike stolen to a different law enforcement agency, the sheriff's office said.
