Multiple Drivers Cited For Racing On Highway 1 In Aptos: CHP

APTOS, CA — A street race involving about 20 vehicles on Highway 1 in Aptos was stopped Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Occupants in the involved cars were spotted leaning out of vehicle windows attempting to record the broad-daylight speed contest, according to the CHP.

Officers acted quickly and managed to stop the group and issued numerous citations, the CHP said.

"Street racing is illegal and extremely dangerous. Participants and onlookers are frequently killed or seriously injured as a consequence. A vehicle is a deadly weapon if used recklessly," the CHP warned.
