This lecture will describe California's drought of 2011-2015, the current El Nino conditions of the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean, and how these events affect our lives here in California.

About the speaker:
Michael E. Loik is Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at University of California, Santa Cruz. His research focuses on how short-term weather patterns and long-term climate trends drive ecological patterns and processes. He has conducted research in the four deserts of the US, the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada, Costa Rica, and Australia.
