New Leaf Community Markets raised $2,719 in customer donations for Community Alliance with Family Farmers’ Farm to School Program.
The funds will provide 22 classrooms with Harvest of the Month Tasting Kits during the 2013-14 school year. These kits will be distributed to classrooms in Santa Cruz City schools and in San Jose.
The kits include curriculum to enable instructors to teach students about healthy food and farming, and locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables for kids to taste.
CAFF's Harvest of the Month Tasting Kit Program served 25,664 students in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Benito, Monterey and San Mateo counties during the 2012-2013 school years.
