No New Power Shutoffs In Santa Cruz County

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — PG&E decided against cutting power in Santa Cruz county Tuesday night after the wind forecast changed. Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties also got a reprieve.

Not everyone was as fortunate. PG&E reports that about a half million customers in 22 counties had their power shut off in the current Public Safety Power Shutoff.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the Bay Area as humidity remains low throughout the region, said NWS meteorologist Matt Mehle. Some areas have 8-9 percent humidity readings early Wednesday.

The Kincade Fire area in northeastern Sonoma County is still seeing strong winds, according to Mehle, as weather stations in the area still reported winds of 25-40 mph early Wednesday. Strongest winds remain at peaks above 2,500 feet.

The dry air sitting over the Northern California region is expected to stay until at least this weekend, Mehle said.
