Great Surfers Overcome Bad Surf on Second Day of O'Neill Cold Water Classic
Competitors made the best out of today's small and inconsistent surf, in their pursuit of the finals.
Skies were clear and the sun was shinning for the second day, but unfortunately the waves were not as perfect. With Steamer Lane seeing the highest tide of the month heats were pushed back till 1:30 p.m. and the fast approaching negative tide made waves small and inconsistent for the competitors.
The finishing heats of round one saw O’Neill team rider and Hawaiian prodigy, Jon Jon Florence, trying to make the best out of the inconsistent surf. Though far between, crowds were awed with airs and stylish slashes on the small surf.
Friday will wrap up round one, and move into the second round with local favorites Jason Collins and Nat Young in the first few heats. Though the surf is expected to be about the same, fans will still be in for a treat from the world-class surfers.
