Parolee Arrested With Meth, Heroin, Gun, Santa Cruz Police Say

High capacity rifle magazines were found in his car Monday, the Santa Cruz Police Department said.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A suspicious car investigation in Santa Cruz Monday night ended in the arrest of a Capitola man in possession of meth, heroin, a loaded handgun and high capacity rifle magazines, police said.

Matthew E. McCuster, 46, was arrested on suspicion of charges related to drugs and guns, and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail, jail records show.

Santa Cruz police said officers first approached him around 8:30 p.m. after noticing his car parked askew with 2016 registration tags near the Shaffer Road railroad tracks.

McCuster was on parole, police said. A search revealed a loaded handgun in his waistband, plus the drugs and rifle magazines, police said.
