SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Power to major parts of Santa Cruz County was restored as of Monday night, with further progress expected Tuesday following a PG&E Public Safety Planned Shutoff that began over the weekend.

Another planned shutoff scheduled to begin Tuesday in the county may not be as widespread as originally anticipated. Approximately 5,400 PG&E customers in the upper San Lorenzo Valley and North Coast areas are expected to lose power Tuesday around 11 p.m.; power restoration is slated to begin Wednesday morning. That number is greatly reduced from the 45,000 customers who lost service over the weekend.

However, fire conditions are still extreme. The National Weather Service has placed much of the Santa Cruz Mountains under a Red Flag Warning beginning Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday.
