Police Identify Students Who Hung Rope From Street Sign
Santa Cruzans were outraged after a rope tied like a noose was found slung over a street sign near UC Santa Cruz this summer.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — University of California, Santa Cruz police said the department has identified the four people spotted slinging a rope tied like a noose over a street sign at the front entrance of campus.
Surveillance photo shows a group of four approaching the street sign at Coolidge Drive and High Street near the UC Santa Cruz campus entrance late one July evening. One person threw a rope atop the sign and the group quickly left.
Police identified the four people as students. They cooperated with the investigation and were interviewed.

Police determined the students did not commit a crime, but said that "does not diminish the impact of harm this incident had on the UC Santa Cruz community."
Police referred the case to the Dean of Students Conduct and Communication for review and potential administrative action.
