Protesters Accused Of Vandalizing City Hall

They were caught on surveillance camera, police said. The damage will cost the city $1,000 to repair.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — The Santa Cruz Police Department arrested three people on suspicion of vandalizing city hall during a protest.

About 30 people gathered at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the city hall courtyard after the Santa Cruz Homeless Union called for a memorial in honor of Deseire Quintero, a local homeless activist killed by a falling tree. The group also said they were gathering in protest of "the city manager's decree against the unhoused and Food Not Bombs," a local organization, according to police.

One person smashed a window with a skateboard and others vandalized the building with black permanent markers, police said. City employees saw the acts, which were also captured by surveillance camera.
