Some 1,200 University of California, Santa Cruz accounts were sent racist emails over the weekend, KION reported.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — An estimated 1,200 University of California, Santa Cruz email accounts received emails containing racist messages targeting Black people over the weekend, KION reported.

The campus information technology department was able to remove most before they were opened, the station reported.

The sender identified themselves as "Equity Prime Mortgage," which told KION that it is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigations after someone obtained a list of emails and began sending false information on the company's behalf. UCSC has reached out to the FBI.
