Registered Sex Offender Arrested Near Santa Cruz High

BREAKING: Police said the Berkeley man also had two felony warrants in Nevada County.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A transient man was arrested in Santa Cruz on Tuesday after he was seen on the campus of Santa Cruz High School, police said. At about 12:33 p.m., campus staff spotted the man walking into the school gym and immediately noticed he was not affiliated with the school.

Campus security was notified and stopped the man before he made contact with students. The man then left the school and was followed by a campus supervisor until police arrived. Police stopped the man a block from the school and determined he was a registered sex offender with two felony warrants in Nevada County, police said.

The transient man was identified as 25-year-old Daniel VanDoren of Berkeley. According to police, an officer arrested VanDoren without further incident.
