SANTA CRUZ, CA — The homeless camp at River Street's Gateway Plaza has once again been shut down by Santa Cruz city officials.

The unsanctioned Ross Camp has been secured and closed to the public, the Santa Cruz Police Department reported Friday.

"Recently, individuals broke into the locked gate and attempted to take full possession of this city property," the SCPD posted on social media. "Those individuals who were occupying this area are illegally trespassing under the Penal Code. SCPD Officers have cleared out the camp, offered shelter options, explained the law, and arrested one person who refused to leave."
