Santa Cruz Among Top CA Contenders For Most Cannabis Dispensaries
Santa Cruz and Cathedral City ranked among the top U.S. cities with the most dispensaries, a Verilife survey found.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — Santa Cruz has the 25th most dispensaries per capita of more than 600 U.S. cities analyzed by dispensary chain Verilife. Santa Cruz and Cathedral City were the only top-ranking cities in California.
Santa Cruz has 6.2 dispensaries per 50,000 residents and California has 1.6 per every 100,000, making it the state with the tenth most dispensaries per capita.
Verilife said it analyzed dispensary listing information from 36 states to conduct the analysis and found that California generated more than $345 million from cannabis sales in 2018, more than any other state.

The state with the second highest cannabis tax revenue was Washington, with $319 million earned in 2018.
Cannabis use became legal in California after voters passed Proposition 64 in November 2016. The law allows six plants per home and recreational use of cannabis for adults at least 21 years old.
