Santa Cruz Cop Injured During Apprehension of Suspect

The man was resisting arrest and scrapping with police, according to the department.

Santa Cruz police were called to the report of a suspicious person “acting out” in the 100 block of Walnut Avenue this week.

Arriving officers encountered Chase Desjardin, 21 years old and from Scotts Valley, who appeared under th influence of a substance, police said.

Desjardin fought with officers telling them he was “seeing ghosts,” and backup patrols were called.

A four-year veteran officer was injured with the a sprained ankle in the melee, police said.

Desjardin was taken to the hospital for observation and he was eventually booked into jail, according to police.

Fifteen Santa Cruz officers were injured and missed work due to cases of suspects resisting arrest, police said.
