Santa Cruz County Grandparents Targeted By Scammers

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office is sounding the alarm after two elderly residents were scammed over the phone in recent days.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Two elderly Santa Cruz County residents were recently scammed by people posing as grandchildren in trouble, the sheriff's office said.

Scammers called the residents and said they needed money to bail out of jail, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said. Scammers sometimes use personal information to try to obtain the grandparent's trust.

The sheriff's office asks the public to share this information with elderly residents and report financial losses due to a scam at 831-471-1121.
