Santa Cruz County Pedestrian Killed In Car Crash

The pedestrian was in the crosswalk, police said. Officers found the responsible car farther up the road.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A 45-year-old Santa Cruz County man was killed Thursday night while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, police said.

A car crashed into the man near the intersection of Mission and King streets around 6:45 p.m., police said. Officers located the responsible car traveling north on Mission Street.

First responders tried to save the man's life while on scene and took him to Dominican Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police said. His name has not been released as officers seek to notify his family.

Santa Cruz Police Department traffic investigators are processing the scene and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner will investigate his death, police said.
