Santa Cruz County Senior Meal Delivery Program Set To Expire Soon

Santa Cruz County has delivered thousands of meals since Memorial Day weekend through the statewide Great Plates Delivered Program.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Santa Cruz County's Great Plates Delivered Program, which serves more than 1,000 meals to older adults on a daily basis, is set to expire June 10.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on April 24 plans to create the Great Plates Delivered program for seniors and high-risk adults ages 60 or older during the coronavirus pandemic. Santa Cruz County began deliveries over Memorial Day weekend.

The state is waiting to see if the federal government will grant its request to extend the program for 30 days, the county said in a news release. The state covers 19 percent of the program cost while the federal Coronavirus, Aid, Relief & Economic Security Act covers the rest.
