Santa Cruz High School Shuts Down Due To Safety Threat
School officials did not describe the nature of the threat.

Santa Cruz High School has been closed today because of a threat against student safety that police are investigating, according to school authorities.
Santa Cruz police have been “working all night on the investigation into the threat,” officials stated on the website of the high school at 415 Walnut Ave.
The officials, who did not describe the nature of the threat, urged students and parents to check back on the school website and their email for updates today.

All other area school will remain open, school officials said.
Santa Cruz City Schools, which oversees the high school, stated on its website, “In consultation with the Deputy Chief of Police, we have decided to close Santa Cruz High School today to ensure the safety of students and staff.”

“The police department is continuing their investigation and we will update the community via website as more information becomes available,” district officials said.
Santa Cruz City Schools superintendent Kris Munro plans to hold a news conference concerning the threat at 1 p.m. today.
A spokesman for Santa Cruz police could not immediately be reached this morning.
