Santa Cruz Ocean Street/Water Street Northwest Corner Improvement Project To Begin April 13

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 9, 2020

SANTA CRUZ — The City of Santa Cruz is scheduled to begin the Ocean Street and Water Street Northwest Corner Improvement Project on Monday, April 13, with minor traffic impacts. The project will reconfigure the corner and intersection to allow for a second left turn lane from Ocean southbound to Water eastbound, increase the size of the pedestrian refuge island, add green bike lanes and replant trees.

Construction work will occur weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic control will be in effect with one southbound Ocean Street lane closed and a shoulder closed on Water Street. Travelers should expect only minor delays including detours for pedestrians.

The project will create more room for the Ocean Street/Water Street intersection by moving the sidewalk at the northwest corner back and expanding the traveled roadway. Project completion is expected before the end of May.
