July Is Parks Make Life Better Month! To celebrate, the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring FREE virtual activities to get our community active and outside enjoying our parks. Things may look different, but Parks and Recreation is still keeping Santa Cruz strong. All event information is available at santacruzparksandrec.com. Teen Center - Design Your Own Swag! - July 13-19
Put your own spin on a plain white t-shirt or pair of kicks! Teens, show us your creativity and personal style by designing your own swag. Starting July 13, the Teen Center will provide a t-shirt or shoes template at CityofSantaCruz.com/virtualrecreation. Teens can share their fashion masterpiece on Instagram @santacruzteencenter.

Wacky Water Day – To Go! - Saturday, July 18
You and your family can enjoy Wacky Water Day at home with a “fun-day” kit from the Louden Nelson Community Center. Each kit includes a list of water activities plus supplies including a colorful ball sponge, inflatable beach ball, water balloons, Parks and Recreation swag, make your own popcorn kit and more! You can request a kit starting Monday July 13 by calling 831-420-6177 or emailing nelsoncenter@gmail.com. Reserved kits will be available at Louden Nelson Community Center for pick-up between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17. One kit per child, per household. First reserved, first served while supplies last.
Virtual Fireworks - Saturday, July 4
Experience fireworks virtually and safely in your own backyard with TotalAR app. The app puts dazzling displays in the sky as if you’re standing right under them. Become a Park Detective with Agents of Discovery
Discover and learn while exploring your local park through the augmented reality Agents of Discovery app. Missions will be set up at four different neighbor parks throughout the month. Each Mission will highlight local flora and fauna as well as the park’s history. The app is free to download and use, no login required. Download the app at AgentsofDiscovery.com/play. Missions begin July 1.
Historic Park Tours with local Historian Ross Gibson
Join local historian Ross Gibson virtually each week as he shares the history of one of our City’s beautiful parks. Parks to be featured include Riverside Gardens, DeLaveaga Park and Ocean View Park. A new Virtual Historic Park Tour will come out each week on our social media channels and at CityofSantaCruz.com/virtualrecreation.
